The Lebanese Solar Energy Society (LSES) and the Industrial Research Institute (IRI) launched the Renewable Energy Truck dedicated to reach the young public and renewable energy enthusiasts.
This green truck is equipped with clean technologies and demonstrates ecofriendly solutions starting with a clean combustion engine, and an off-grid cabin combining elements that function with renewable energies such as solar PV, wind turbine, solar water heater, and other technologies.
These demonstrative equipment and materials include:
- Solar water heater with hot water storage tank 80 liters.
- PV cells including batteries, inverter and charger
- Small wind turbine/generator
- Weather monitoring station with various measuring devices (Pyranometer, Temperature indicators, anemometer, sensors )
- Educational material and toys with RE themes
The truck is also equipped with educational and awareness tools that can be used during demonstration like: TV, DVD player, sound system, CD’s, brochures, pamphlets etc. and a small desk cabinet for a PC station.
The truck introduces students to renewable energy and the transformation of energy from one type to another. It demonstrates different green technologies including solar water heating, PV electricity systems, wind energy systems, biomass thermal heat generation, and other technologies. It also provides educational material such as computers and LCD screens, as well as books and pamphlets adapted to various age levels. This aims at raising awareness among students and helps raise an environmentally aware generation.
The Green Educational Truck aims at reaching students from 6th to 12th grade in private and public schools across the Lebanese territories. The truck would be conducting school visits on daily basis and will be also present in educational and environmental exhibitions and fairs to reach a wider scope of the population.
With students learning about green technologies, their families would be aware as well, and the penetration of renewable energies and environmentally friendly solutions would increase.
After 3 years of restless work, the truck is now finalized and available to perform tours around Lebanese schools.
The truck is expected to present renewable energy technologies to more than 12,000 students a year. It will be part of their awareness studies on the importance of renewable energy in their daily lives.
Being a first of its kind in Lebanon and the Middle East, the green vehicle is a mobile hands-on educational library showing what alternative solutions are, and encouraging the adoption of such solutions in students’ future or present homes.
The mission of LSES is to encourage sustainable practice in the community in its multiple forms and mainly in the energy sector through promoting renewable technologies at all levels.
The demonstration renewable energy truck would indeed be an important educational tool in the shaping of the future of our young generation. It will be a role model to follow for its green operations from engine power, to water heating and electricity generation.
The Ecotruck was officially launched on the 11th of December 2012 in a prestigious event at the Industrial Research Institute.
